Non-Ordinary Therapies

Non-ordinary states of consciousness are just outside our normal everyday experiences that expand beyond our mind’s perceived limitations. There are various tools to access these states, including body wisdom, psychedelics, breathwork, drumming, meditative techniques, imagery, dance and movement. By intentionally accessing these non-ordinary states, people can find ways to release the past and create an entirely new future and life purpose. Services offered include mind-body therapy and coaching, psychedelic preparation and integration, energy work, and meditation guidance.

Conscious Transformation

"One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light but by making the darkness conscious" - C.G. Jung

How do we remain vital, creative, and playful in a world that sometimes seems to demand we give up these very qualities in order to fit in and succeed?  How can we remain connected to the depths while living and working in the world?  How can we stay in touch with, or find and retrieve those parts of our fragmented selves that are essential to being whole and joyful? Services offered include spiritual counseling, shamanic healing, plant medicine and psychedelic integration, and chakra clearing, drawing on the Shipibo and wider Andean traditions of Peruvian shamanism, Jungian theory and eco-therapy practices.

Things do not have to be perfect to be beautiful. Like an eclectic collection of images, or a mosaic that’s much more charming with all its diverse elements all together, each piece with its own distinctive character gives a Whole Character that is greater beyond what any one piece could offer on its own. My poetry orbits the image of eyes and theme of perception as the gateway to the universe of experience. My relationship with art is meditative and therapeutic. During 2021 - 2023 I served as secretary and then vice president for WordSwell literary journal. I love bringing together, connecting, and inspiring other creatives. Services I offer include beta reader and critic partner trades, as well as literary journal publication process guidance. Please visit me at dawnbratton.com.

Illuminating Perception Through Poetry & Art

Poetry takes us into another world, a magical terrain that fosters intuition, empathy & connection. In this workshop, we will savor poems that launch your creativity. Three poems will be read and used as prompts for generating new work in a supportive space. Also, if you are interested in individual writing coaching—for young writers in academic settings as well as adult writers seeking editorial feedback—please contact me through my website for more information.

A World in a Line: Poetry-Inspired Writing Workshop

These workshops will help you get started on creative writing of any sort — poems, stories, personal essays, plays, novels. We establish an inviting atmosphere, one so comfortable even the shyest writers can flourish and feel proud of what they accomplish. The theory and practice of the workshops, all based on appreciation of our creative spirits, are laid out in the tutorial Let the Crazy Child Write! (New World Library, 1996). The tutorial’s title is meant as an invitation for our creative unconscious to participate. Its wild, authentic, passionate energy gives our writing intrigue, personality, and much power. Available workshops:

  • 2-Busy-2-Write: Our most popular group for first-timers. We meet every Tuesday, 7pm to 9pm, and we devise a prompt and write for an hour! No feedback, just applause and enjoyment. The fee is $10 or any donation.

  • Poetry Class: Are you interested in poetry? Every Thursday, 7pm to 9pm, is Poetry Class. In this workshop we look into the natural organics of your poem. What is the poem's intention, where does it reveal its core, where does it turn, and how does it work through to its conclusion? Mostly we workshop our poems, and occasionally I'll interject some theory, Imagism, modernism, the Beat aesthetic, and the current template. Fee is any donation.

  • Writing Workshops: We have two ongoing in-depth workshops per week, one Wednesday evenings 6:30 to 9:30pm and the other Friday mornings 10am to 1pm. We bring five pages of any creative writing to these groups, and give them supportive analysis. There is an associated fee for these in-depth workshops. Please contact me for fee information (contact info below).

Please email me at clive@matsonpoet.com to receive further information and/or the Zoom link for any of these groups. You're welcome to drop in just to see what it's like. Meetup can also be used as a platform primarily for newcomers to receive the Zoom link. Find out more about me at matsonpoet.com, wordswelljournal.org, and on Wikipedia.

Crazy Child Workshops

“Open to the sky of possibilities…”

Wisdom guide and intuitive ritualist for over 35 years, I provide helpful insight for those seeking meaningful perspective and compassionate support, holding sacred space and providing ceremony for life passages. During the 1970s I followed the phases of the moon, backpacking through Central America with a deck of tarot cards as my guide. In 1985 I co-founded the Temple of Living Prayer, a California non-profit spiritual organization in Sacramento, where I served as minister and pastor for over ten years. During 1995-1998 I served as Astrologer-in-Residence at Wilbur Hot Springs, living off-grid at the edge of the wilderness.

I offer astrological consultations, tarot consultations, and ceremonial rites and services for weddings, grief passages, memorials, and blessings for any life passage, milestone, or transition. I create and lead healing rituals, as well as guided meditations. My services and ceremonies employ Tibetan bowls, bells, gongs, and drums, among other tools.
