Poetic Ponderings
As Simple As, by Sarah Burkle
It does often seem glamorous
Waking from groggy nightmares
Crusted eyes and dry mouth
Yet one eye can open after the other,
The foot can touch the floor, one after the other
Step, step, step.
We bask in the glory of light-filled days
We cower in the shadows when darkness falls
Believing we can’t see or find our way
Forgetting, perhaps, that we hold a lantern
To light the path, if only the next small step.
Who walks beside me?
One voice exclaiming the uproarious feat of scaling this mountain!
Another whispering, it is as simple as opening your eyes to daylight when sleep is no longer needed.
Sarah Burkle (Worrell) is an artist, writer, mother, and therapist who works at the intersection of science and spirituality, seeking to bring about non-ordinary states of consciousness which have been shown to provide a fundamental environment for deep healing. She owns Non-Ordinary Therapies, a private-practice dedicated to providing quality mental, emotional, and spiritual support to assist people in accessing their deepest levels of self and a richer connection with the world. She also helped co-found Moon Blossom Collective in 2023. Becoming No One: Moments of Divine Spaciousness in a Typically Cluttered Mind is Sarah’s debut poetry collection about the process of awakening. Becoming No One takes readers through a journey of the dark corners of the human mind and finds hope in suffering, as our greatest teacher on the path to enlightenment.
